When it comes to the show bench and among our members the Bristol Shubunkin is possibly the most popular variety of them all. The name tells you its history – it is a variety developed in Britain. A single tail that has developed over the years, with outstanding nacreous colours based on a strong deep blue, the Bristol is a hardy fish for the pond and the fish house. The breeders’ efforts on the tail have changed the variety’s shape as the development of the tail has necessitated a stronger caudal peduncle. The variety is rarely seen in the shops as it isn’t bred commercially so one to see at a Society Show and well worth the time.
