Veiltail Oranda

Once perhaps the most popular of the twin tailed varieties with a dorsal fin, the change of standard to require a veiltail made the fish very difficult to develop and keep healthy and popularity dropped almost to zero. Changes to the show standard in 2013/4 have included reintroducing the forked tail which also allows for the fish to be much more balanced and to deport properly and immediately the popularity of this hooded variety has been shown with a significant return to the show bench. Available in both metallic (many colours) and nacreous scale types the Oranda grows large and is rightly one of the best known and most popular varieties – with beginners and specialists alike.
